Jujitsu is an inexpensive, year round activity that appeals to people from all walks of life. Jujitsu provides the means for learning and improving oneself - physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. Regular Jujitsu training can improve an individual's aerobic capacity, speed, power, strength, agility and flexibility. It develops complete body control, fine balance and fast reflexive action. Above all, it develops a sharp reacting mind- well coordinated with the same kind of body. Jujitsu utilizes virtually every muscle of the body and is an overall conditioner. Although Jujitsu techniques are initially learned individually in a static position, the essence of Jujitsu is the ability to move from one technique to another, and as quickly and as often as necessary to control the attacker. The principle behind each technique can be applied in numerous situations, not just in a manner in which it is learned. Each technique, in fact, is designed to illustrate and teach a specific principle. Like most other martial arts, practitioners wear special clothes to help learn the application of techniques. The clothing enhances control for maximum safety in practice. Jujitsu is also practiced on special mats to added comfort and safety. |
